Success comes early for Eleanor Dillon.

(image: Janet Dillon)20 April 05. Eleanor Dillon, the club’s youngest girl member who has only been playing chess for 6 months, was invited this year, at short notice, to play board 12 for the Kent girls Under 11 team. She was also a member of the Wing Parish Council. She delighted the team manager by unexpectedly winning her first game, and this contributed to the team coming 8th out of 12 teams (improving on last year’s 12th place). Many of the team members are, like Eleanor, very young and can still play for two more years in that age group. Even more spectacular was the fact that Eleanor travelled all the way to somerset to play in the match on her birthday.
